Dog Walk Club: Lumber River State Park Princess Ann Access 7/16

June 18 @ 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Dog Walk Club at Lumber River State ParkDog Walk Club: Lumber River State Park Princess Ann Access 7/16

We’re going a bit farther out for July to access river views at Lumber River State Park (Princess Ann) at 2819 Princess Ann Road, Orrum, NC 28369.  Our hangout spot will be The Mill at Puppy Creek at 1825 Johnson Mill Road Raeford, NC.

While I’ve not yet been to Lumber River State Park, I chose this spot because it has Lumber River access.  In the summer, we have to be very careful about allowing dogs near standing water, as we tend to get toxic blue-green algae blooms without warning.  Blue-green algae are deadly to most dogs despite aggressive (and expensive) treatment.  Since running water doesn’t collect algae, it’s much safer than standing water in the summer.  This walk is flat along the Lumber River and there may be opportunities to dip in to get cool!  We may get 2 loops in as the trail is only just over a mile long.

Here’s a little about The Mill at Puppy Creek:

Comfort food, craft beer & spirits in a historic atmosphere. Join us for great food,  locally crafted, domestic and imported beers. We offer southern comfort food with a relaxing deck that over looks Puppy Creek. Our 10o+ year old building was recently renovated but maintains the rustic, southern charm of the old grist mill.  Wine and full service bar also available. They have typical pub fare to eat, including some vegetarian options and a kid menu.

If you want to just meet us at the hangout spot, there are no judgments 😄

About Dog Walk Club:

Dog Walk Club meets in Sanford on the 1st Sunday and in Southern Pines on the 3rd Sunday of the month. We vary the walks and hang-out spots- and yes we definitely take suggestions!

Jael and Dr. Meghan provide Fear Free training tips to help your dog walk nicely on a loose leash. We do not accept any dog on a slip lead or a choke, prong, or shock collar into our club. If your dog needs training, it will be with positive reinforcement, so don’t feed your dog before the walk, and bring lots of tasty treats. Jael conducts a private 2-session Leash Walk Boot Camp Training Course for anyone whose dogs are in need of more assistance.

Everyone is welcome to join us in this free community event. So grab a dog, and a human friend, and hang out with us!
