Dog Walk Club will meet for a walk at Raven Rock State Park on Sunday, 2/4. We’ll meet at 3 pm at the Raven Rock Visitor Center 3009 Raven Rock Rd Lillington 27546. Despite what the entrance gate sign says, there is never a wait to park on Sunday afternoons. Our hangout spot for this walk is Lilly’s Mexican Restaurant at 2898 S Horner Blvd in Sanford.
We’re going to do Raven Rock Loop Trail, which is 2.6 miles and should take about an hour to complete. The trail itself is pretty flat and well-maintained with sand and packed dirt terrain. You will encounter some rocks and roots, but not much. However, to get to the Raven Rock namesake lookout it’s about 140 steps down and back! You don’t have to do the steps (I usually don’t- bad knees). This is a popular trail for hiking and biking.
I haven’t been there yet but I’m always willing to try good Mexican food. There are lots of great reviews. They have a large covered patio where we can hang out with the puppers.
Dog Walk Club meets in Sanford on the 1st Sunday and in Southern Pines on the 3rd Sunday of the month. We vary the walks and hang-out spots- and yes we definitely take suggestions! This is a family-friendly event. Littles are welcome as long as they can keep up (we’re not that fast, trust me).
Jael and Dr. Meghan provide Fear Free training tips to help your dog walk nicely on a loose leash. We do not accept any dog on a slip lead or a choke, prong, or shock collar into our club. If your dog needs training, it will be with positive reinforcement, so don’t feed your dog before the walk, and bring lots of tasty treats. Jael conducts a private 2-session Leash Walk Boot Camp Training Course for anyone whose dogs need of more assistance.
Everyone is welcome to join us in this free community event. So grab a dog, your family, and a human friend, and hang out with us!
Dr. Meghan and Annika are going to get to Raven Rock at 11 am and do the Campbell Creek and Lanier Falls Loop Trails. This is a moderately strenuous 5.5 mile hike that should take between 2-3 hours. I’m packing lunch and taking a break before leading the Raven Rock Loop Trail. We welcome company if anyone wants to join us!
