Dog Training

Dog training teaches you and your dog to communicate clearly and with respect for each other. We use 100% positive reinforcement because it is the most effective way to teach and has very little risk of physical or emotional harm to your dog.  You can read more about our methods and why we choose R+ on our blog How To Use Science to Make Dog Training Easy.

There are a few essential skills that all dogs should know:

  • Focus
  • Relax
  • Come
  • Loose leash walk
  • Leave it

That’s all a dog has to know to be a great family pet!  By teaching these very basic cues, you avoid dogs that jump on people, steal food from the counters, lunge and pull on leashes, and ignore you when you call them.  You can keep your dog and people safe with these 5 cues.

Training does not fix behavior problems.  For that, you need behavior medicine.  The difference is that behavior medicine seeks to discover and resolve the underlying physical or emotional problem that causes the unwanted behavior.  For example, you can’t train a dog to not be anxious during thunderstorms.  But you can change their fear into neutrality or even joy with desensitization and counter-conditioning.

Jael, our Animal Behavior Consultant and Certified Fear Free trainer, conducts both private in-home and group training courses.
