Primal Freeze Dried Dog Food Nuggets Turkey & Sardine

A safe, nutritious, and delicious way to make dry adult food taste great is to add Primal Freeze-Dried Adult Dog Food as a topper to the kibble.

$34.98 for a 14 0z bag, about 50 nuggets per bag

$67.96 for 2 14 oz bags

$139.92 for 4 14 oz bags

Description

You’re probably wondering if I’ve lost my mind recommending a grain-free food for dogs.  I promise I’m not crazy.

The more we study how grain-free diets cause some dogs to get dilated cardiomyopathy, a potentially fatal heart disease, the more we think it is due to the pulses they use to replace the grains for a carbohydrate source.  Pulses are things like peas, chickpeas, beans, etc.  Primal Freeze-Dried Adult Dog Food does not have any pulses in it, even though it is grain-free.

Second, Primal Freeze-Dried Dog Food is extremely expensive.  For a 50 pound dog, they need about 24 nuggets per day.  A 14 oz bag has about 50 nuggets.  That’s about $20 per DAY to feed a medium-sized dog.

What I recommend is using this as a topper to a complete and balanced dry dog food at least a few times per week.  Your dog will LOVE you for it!  And you’ll be supplying safe, complete, balanced, raw nutrition at the same time for a reasonable cost.

I only recommend raw food for healthy adult dogs.  Puppies, seniors, and dogs with chronic conditions (besides arthritis) should not eat raw food.  Also, raw goat milk is not safe to feed to dogs, so please ignore that labeling recommendation.

From the brand

Premium freeze-dried raw dog food made with fresh, cage-free turkey raised without antibiotics, steroids, or added hormones, wild-caught sardines, and USDA organic fruits & vegetables.

Grain-free Upgrade from kibble. Minimally processed dog food delivers the highest digestibility for maximum nutrient absorption to support optimal weight, skin & coat, oral & eye health, and reduced stool volume

Serve as a complete & balanced meal, a freeze-dried dog food topper, or a treat.

Adding Primal Pet Food just a few times a week will help you start to see the results raw food for dogs can provide convenient & delicious raw nutrition.

A shelf-stable, great alternative to frozen dog food. Easy to crumble and serve.

Best when rehydrated to satisfy your dog’s natural instinct.

3-4 nuggets per oz, about 50 nuggets per 14 oz bag.

Crafted in the USA.

Wholesome adult dog food with real whole food ingredients. No synthetic vitamins or minerals. No artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. No corn, wheat, soy, lentils, or legumes.

Directions

Crumble the nuggets and mix 1 tablespoon of water or broth  per nugget (1/4 cup per 4 nuggets).  Let the liquid soak in before feeding.

As a sole diet, feed your dog by the weight range below:

  • 5–10 lbs: 4–7 nuggets
  • 10–20 lbs: 7–11 nuggets
  • 20–40 lbs: 11–19 nuggets
  • 40–60 lbs: 19–26 nuggets
  • 60–80 lbs: 26–32 nuggets
  • 80–100 lbs: 32–40 nuggets
  • 100 lbs and above: 40+ nuggets

As a topper, you can feed as many as you need to flavor the base diet.  Each nugget is 44 kcal so reduce your dog’s base diet accordingly.

    Our babies LOVEEEE!

Trying to figure out if AMAZON, Tomlinson’s or Chewy has the best price… BUT…Our dogs love it. Their coats are shiny and hair is gorgeous! The raw diet is so great for dogs and their immune systems. They gobble this up.Do I love how my hands smell after crumbling it? No. But if you’re like me, you’ll do anything for the babies.I LOVE IT. They love it.

I cannot rave about this product more! my 6 year old dogs teeth went from kinda gross to completely clean! This the only thing I changed for him, I just get them one nugget a day as a topper 1/2 in the morning 1/2 at night and crumble it up on top adding water to kibble. My dogs love it and I think it gives them nutrition they maybe missing with regular kibble.

Dogs loves them as a topper or broken into treats

I have a large dog so they are too expensive to feed as a full meal. That said, my dog loves them and I often break them into small pieces for training or add water to her food and mix one in from time to time.

    Dog Loves it!

My dog is a picky eater. Haven’t found a food he will just eat out of his bowl till now. It has all the nutrients he needs packed into these chunks. I hydrate in warm water for a few minutes and put in his bowl. I do feed less than stated on the package for his weight.

Quality midnight snack for my cats!

My kids (cats) are extremely spoiled. I don’t give them junk snacks and i love the high quality + clean ingredients in this Brand. I break the nuggets into 2 and they are plenty for my 2 kids. The added moisture ensures they are getting liquid even when eating a healthy snacks. Lastly, they love this sardine flavor ❤️

The ONLY brand my picky dog has eaten consistently, in her entire lifetime – over 19 years!

The ONLY brand my picky dog has eaten consistently, in her entire lifetime – over 19 years!Pickiest eater I’ve ever heard of! We’ve tried so many differing bags of dry, canned wet food, kibbles, dry crunchy, Dry soft and chewy, pellets, nuggets, chunks, disks, random bites, with topper, without topper, oh and damn near every brand of topper… I’m sure I’ve left out but you get my point. lol! This Primal Freeze-Dried Dog Food Nuggets of all differing flavors are THE PRICIEST Brand I’ve ever considered feeding my dog, but as she had become “senior”, I wanted to make the last years of her life, the best they can be! So, I’m spending the extra money! Its worth it too! Her entire demeanor has changed for the better! She has FAR more energy than while on the best quality foods I could find. But many pf the commercial brands are simply TRASH! Do your due diligence! This stuff is literally the healthiest dry food you can lay hands on, without making some food yourself! Who has time for that! 5 stars and I am happy to say, well worth the price but it would be nice to see the price drop, considerably as this style becomes more popular and more businesses get with it and start making more competitive products! Wink, wink! Get with it Pet food suppliers! lol! I give this stuff 5 Stars across the board! You may feed to your mutt, “as is, dry”. Add water as suggested or mix in hot water for a hot meal for your pet! Amazing stuff! Be sure to WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER CONTACT AS THIS TRULY IS “RAW” MEAT PRODUCT.Nowhere near as dangerous as raw meat, fish or poultry. But the warning for humans not to eat it, and to wash your hands after handling, is on the bag as well! READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY for you and your beloved furball’s sake! Hope you find this helpful!

    My dog is obsessed!

I break these bricks up and scatter them throughout my dog’s meals. I don’t use it as her only food which, according to the bag, is what most people must do. I don’t wet it and she only gets 1 to 2 bricks in her meals. She absolutely loves it. As I’ve not sampled turkey and sardine raw dog bricks, I can only speak to flavor (which I gave 5 stars) through my sweet pup’s reaction. She LOVES this flavor…odd pairing of turkey and sardine but she doesn’t seem to mind the liberty the folks at Primal Nuggets took in creating it. I gave Value 3 stars because if you use it as recommended on the bag for a large dog (like I have) it would be very, very expensive. But, as I mentioned earlier, I only use it as as topper. So, in that case, for my value it is pretty good! You get quite a bit in the bag. You do have to wash your hands thoroughly per the bag instructions as it is considered ‘raw’ food. For our use, and my dog’s sophisticated palette, these are keepers! Though, they do make her a bit gassy. But, she’s a Boxer, so it’s hard to tell if that is indeed what makes her gassy, as most things do. This is one of the most unique pairings of flavors I’ve seen on this type of raw dog food and I think it fires on all cylinders for a dog’s nose and taste buds!

Yummy Yummy in Boo Boo’s Tummy Tummy – CHOP Protocol for Canine Lymphoma

Perhaps I shouldn’t write a review so soon after Boo Boo first meal, but he LOVED it. I had my doubts about turkey and sardines, as he’s finicky about omega-3. I dehydrated two bricks and pierced a capsule of Omega-3 and little guy chowed down. Now he’s looking for leftovers on his paws!Boo recently began chemotherapy for canine lymphoma so diet has become especially critical. There were way too many recipes and too much conflicting advice online about how to make my own. There are so many enzymes a dog’s digestive track needs that it doesn’t get from simply cooking meat on the stove. If you can swing it, more power to you but it would be way too easy for me to overlook something critical.I winnowed my list of critically good and bad ingredients and began the search for store bought food; but my focus had been on Boo Boo’s treatment and then managing side effects (side note: most websites note the majority of dogs don’t experience them but its taken a lot out of my poor guy. Nothing acute, thanks be to God, but just zonked), so I chose to find a blogger who had been in my shoes and done the work. I found one at http://www.somepets.com that recommended this food as it’s what she fed her dog, Ty, when he successfully went through the CHOP protocol.A few pointers after countless hours of research on canine cancer diets, if you’re in my shoes:carbohydrates/most grains convert to sugar in the body. Cancer cells love sugar. Stay away from them in food and treats. Boo Boo has always been on a grain free diet, which meant one less change. Definitely a win.A truly raw diet may be great for healthy dogs, but too risky for a dog undergoing treatment due to their weakened immune systems and higher potential for infection. Raw beef is the least risky as it has the fewest microbes of other meat options, but raw isn’t anything I’d feel comfortable with giving Boo Boo during treatment. Many wonderful diets for healthy dogs are filled with fruits and vegetables. You need to be careful here due to the carbohydrate information shared above. For instance, when I tried making my own dog food, I added carrots and peas thinking they’d be good (and it’s what I had in the refrigerator) but they’re too carbohydrate heavy. This is what made me decide that my efforts to cook may do more harm than good.Cancer cells are less responsive to fat cells. Protein, protein, protein.Just as in the human market, the veterinary world touts tons of supplements with very little, if any, scientifically backed evidence. What’s worse is when your dog is in chemotherapy/radiation, many of these supplements can potentially impact treatment. Be sure to show your vet everything you’re adding. I showed my vet oncologist Boo Boo’s probiotic and she said it wouldn’t hurt (read: it might not help either). The only supplements with scientifically supported studies and clinical evidence for improving outcomes for canine lymphoma was integrating Omega-3.For that reason, I love the sardines in this food and probably makes the Omega 3 oil I sprinkle on taste a little better than in Boo’s beef meals!I’ll come back and edit this if Boo’s enthusiastic reception changes.

Best to mix with kibble for extra flavor

I bought these freeze dried nuggets for my 8 year old Husky. He is quite the picky eater and has seizures so I really have to look at the ingredients in dog food before purchasing. I first bought this item off CHEWY and my Husky seemed to enjoy it. I would add about 4 nuggets with his regular kibble and he would devour it. The best thing to do is put your amount of kibbles into a bowl, add some hot water to help it break up, then start mixing with a spoon. The nuggets start to look like shredded meat afterwards. I think my Husky likes it since it is warm and he thinks it is real human food. I have since ordered the Beef and Chicken nuggets as well for him to try. His favorite so far is the Beef flavor. I will see how long it takes before he gets bored of this food but so far so good!

    Wow.

I changed my dog food to Earthborn and it seemed to help with reducing itchy spots under my Boxer’s tail and on her stomach. But her coat was still dry with dandruff and I got a couple of samples of the Turkey and Sardine nuggets at a natural food store. Both my Boxer and mega-mutt went ape at the smell and taste! (BTW I didn’t notice any foul smell) So, I stopped the wet food I was mixing in with their kibble and started mixing Turkey/Sardine or Duck in their food, adding water to the kibble, otherwise it was too dry and my Boxer would cough. Within a week my mega-mutt’s coat was gleaming. She’s @ 25 pounds and gets about two-thirds of a nugget twice a day. I gradually increased the Primal Nuggets to one-and-a-half twice a day for my 75 pound Boxer and her coat, as of today, is gorgeous and she “checks out” her bottom every few days but only for a few seconds. The spots used to drive her crazy, she’d lick and spin and I’d have to rub diaper lotion on the areas twice a week. Now, her just looking toward the area every few days is a great improvement, she likely has some residual aggravation that hopefully will continue to resolve as she continues on this food/supplement. As far as taste goes three out of four dogs I know love the Turkey/Sardine, one wanted nothing to do with it. My two like the Turkey/Sardine and the Duck and I’m trying the Chicken soon. I haven’t figured out what this will cost me per month but it will be less expensive than visits to the vet, and my Boxer girl certainly feels better and looks better and I’m pleased. Other than looking good, my mega-mutt is still the same. Nuts.

Great for dogs who are older

I have an older dog who has quit eating anything that is crunchy because of her teeth. I decided to try this product based on the ingredients and the reviews. I find that it is easy to fix by just adding water. I think it looks like an insulation brick when I take it out, but it soaks up the water quickly and my dog loves it. The company has several different flavors so I can switch things around to keep her interested in eating.

    Dogs LOVE high priced food

I use this to add as topping once a day for my three dogs. It’s a treat. If fed alone, one bag would not last 2 days for one of my dogs— maybe 4-5 days for the small dog. At $33/bag it apparently would cost about 6-7 times $33 for one 32 lb dog. I had prepared home cooked food for diabetic dog with Cushings that cost me about $75/month. She lived another three years (age 13, GSD mix) and would not have survived in the big brand name diabetic kibble.

    Holy grail

We’re never switching back. Our 13 year old standard dachshund has never looked and felt better – so much so that he barks before every meal! And our 8 year old border collie with sensitive teeth can eat it right down without wanting to stop. They both feel great after and we can tell by their post-meal behavior. Winning food!

I cant tell you how it tastes but it must be good lol as she eats it. I have been searching for two years for a food she would eat. I had to cook nightly and was afraid she wouldn’t get the right nutrients. I crush up a few cubes of this food and she gobbles it up! Great product!!! Terrible shipment pulverized nuggets…

2 STARS: This review is about the SELLER Monster Pets. This is a Freeze Dried food that needs to be handled properly for shipping. This product is not kibble but nuggets. This item arrived in a compressed plastic envelop instead of a box with bubble grap. Obviously the product arrived crushed. Half of the bag is unusable. The nuggets are pulverized.5 STARS: About PRIMAL Freeze Dried food it is a 5 star dog food – excellent!!! I been feeding my Shih with this food for 4 years now and he is healthy and in great weight. He loves it. It is expensive for a larger breed but it can also be added to kibble to add nutricional value to the kibble. The nuggets need to be re-hydated with warm water, drain and then serve. If buying, please include a note to seller to mKe sure they handle the shipment correctly in case they don’t know well the product they are selling. I bought this from another seller before and it arrived ok, in a box. Next time I will include a note to make sure this don’t happen again.

I believe its the BEST you can get for your dogs.

I buy it for my dogs and they seem to love it. I break 3 or 4 up in a bowl for them, open a fibermucil cap up & sprinkle about half of it onto the food and add about 1/2 ounce of chicken broth for each nugget, mix it all up & give it to them. Between the two of them, they weigh about 10 to 15lbs, they eat it up and never complain. Ocassionally, they will take a day off & not eat anything and then pick up again the next day. I stick with the chicken & turkey/sardine because they are both very digestible for them.

    Perfect for allergy prone pups

I can not say enough amazing things about this food. My maltese terrier has HORRIBLE allergies, she was on grain free Blu Buffalo for her entire life and developed allergies out of no where we did everything, tried different flavors, shampoos, pills, sprays, creams as well as ACV & coconut oil, which helped but never took away her symptoms, my poor baby practically lived in her soft cone- until we found this.I was about to start making her own food when a local pet store gave me a sample of the beef, Fifi loved it but was still itchy, I decided to try the Turkey flavor since I read dogs are most allergic to chicken, beef & lamb. Within 2 days Fifi was itch free. We had suffered so long with the sleepless nights and my poor baby licking and scratching herself til she bled, she was bald in most spots and for us to have her cured within a few days it’s was an answered prayer. I am so happy we could get her allergies under control and I feel so good knowing she is eating a high quality food that will keep her healthy for a long time not to mention she goes crazy for the taste licks the bowl and everything. I top her breakfast with coconut oil and her din with salmon oil. If your pup has allergies please try!

    My picky dog loves

My dog is very picky. Will not eat anything that is not broken up in small bites, often times don’t like any treats we buy him. Barely tolerates his normal dry food. We usually fill his bowl at all times because he doesn’t over eat or eat a whole lot.I have a 40lbs dog so I normally hydrate 6 to 8 bars of this stuff and put it on top of his normal dog food. And my dog eats everything right away, tells me his bowl is empty and licks his chomps for more.

My sweet pup isn’t a fan of kibble hard food but I think she needs the crunch for her dental health so I mix a little kibble and crumble up the Primal and add water. She eats every bite. Really helps keep her weight down to stick to the feeding guide on the back of the bag. I also break one up and stuff it in her chew puzzle bone she works for hours trying to lick it out. Healthy mix of ingredients.

    My dogs go to food

After trying multiple foods for my picky dog she decided she loves primal nuggets! She eats them just the way they come without rehydrating. Since she eats it non hydrated she is quite thirsty after.

My dog LOVES these nuggets more than McDonald’s nuggets!

My dog can be a bit of a picky eater when it comes to his dry food. I’ve been searching for toppers that are affordable and still have great ingredients. On top of those needs, my dog has to like it. LolWell he loves these nuggets! Although they stink, the power punch smell must be what gets my stinky boy excited every meal!

Dog loves it, I gag at smell

Pretty much what the title says. It has an excellent list of ingredients and I know it is amazing for my dog.

Good quality and great as treats!

I use these mostly as training treats and they are great! My trainer recommended them and my pup agrees. And so do all of the dogs at the dog park who can smell it on me as soon as I get there! I break the bricks up into smaller pieces for treats. I like that I can take one or two bricks in my pocket and I don’t have to worry about kibble flying anywhere. The ingredients are great quality so I feel good giving it to my furchild. I’ve also used it a few times as intended as a meal with water or edible elixir. He loves that, too, but I prefer to feed raw instead of freeze dried for meals. I can see this is a great solution for travel.
