Directions

Using a standard 8 oz/250 ml measuring cup which contains approximately 108 g of Pro Plan. Puppies start to nibble solid foods at 3 – 4 weeks of age. Keep moistened Pro Plan available at all times. Allow your puppy to eat at will until fully weaned (6 – 8 weeks). After weaning, Pro Plan can be fed moistened or dry. For best results, develop a regular feeding schedule such as three small meals a day for younger puppies. You can gradually reduce to one feeding in the morning and one in the evening as your puppy ages. The routine should not vary. As puppies near adulthood, their calorie needs may drop, and your puppy may begin leaving some food in the bowl. Don't misinterpret this as an indication of dislike for the food. Instead, begin offering less so your puppy doesn't overeat and stays in ideal body condition. Nestlé Purina Research indicates that avoiding overfeeding of puppies may help their development. Maintaining ideal body condition is key to encouraging proper growth in all puppies, especially large breeds. The indicated amounts are only a guideline. If your puppy becomes overweight, a reduction of your puppy's daily food intake may be appropriate. You may wish to consult your veterinarian about a weight control program. FEEDING FOR REPRODUCTION Pro Plan provides the extra nutrition needed by reproducing females in stages of gestation and lactation. Food consumption may vary during gestation, so feed the amount needed to maintain the pregnant female's ideal body condition. Food intake may double or even quadruple during lactation. MAKING THE SWITCH TO PRO PLAN Although you'll be anxious to see the difference Pro Plan can make in your dog, please allow 7 – 10 days to ease the transition from your dog's current food. Each day, simply feed a little less of the previous food and a little more Pro Plan until you're feeding Pro Plan exclusively. This gradual transition will help avoid dietary upsets. Provide adequate fresh water in a clean container daily. For your pet's health, see your veterinarian regularly.

Good enough to convince me to change brands.

I am currently using Nutro for large-breed puppies, but my dog really has shown an amazing interest in this brand. I have only been able to try a little so as not to upset his digestion, but so far, he has really responded well to it. I like the ingredients and am open to trying a little grain in his diet after doing some research and seeing others’ experiences with this brand.I will update this review if anything changes, but so far I am sold with a very happy 5-month-old pooch. I plan to order a larger bag of the large-breed puppy formula next.

Good nutrition for my older dog that needs a few extra calories

Review for: New! Purina Pro Plan High Protein Chicken & Rice Puppy Dry Dog FoodI have an older dog that needs extra calories to keep the weight on. He is a but picky on what he likes so I was not sure how he would feel about this food. He surprised me by loving it. He does well with the size of the kibble and I am happy to see him eating something that he loves and that has those needed calories. There were no stomach upsets as he transitioned to this good.

    Pup loved it

I got this bag to try out with my young pup, an extremely active and wild St Bernard. He enjoyed the food and ate it without any fuss or need to “yummify” it, which is needed with most foods. He is generally very picky and requires you to do a whole song and dance about how good the food is before he will even go look at the bowl you placed down. This food solved the issue and he was happy and excited to go see what was in the bowl after the first day of trying it.If it makes him happy, it makes me happy.

    Great for underweight dogs

I have an older dog that recently lost some weight after a medical illness and has struggled to get back to her healthy weight so although not a puppy this food seemed to be able to help so I gave it a shot. The bag isn’t big but it did work for what I needed and did help my underweight dog reach a much healthier weight which I appreciate. I can’t speak personally to the flavor but my dog that has had a pretty poor appetite seemed to enjoy it and always finished her bowel so it seems to have a good taste. Overall this dog food does exactly what it promised and helped our dog reach a healthy weight so in pleased with the product.

    Great for Added Protein Boost

This Purina Pro Plan is great for giving an added protein boost for growing pups, or even older dogs who’s diet calls for a little extra protein as well. The size of the kibble is smaller than regular Purina kibble so it’s easier for puppies or smaller/older dogs to chew. I personally trust Purina and the ingredients in this food appear to be healthy choices, and better than cheaper selections of puppy food. Shelter pups seem to really gobble this stuff up so I will defer to them on taste! Overall I feel this is a quality puppy food with good, solid ingredients to support a healthy growing pup.

    Moxie Gobbled it Up!

Great for so many reasons. Moxie loved it from the first bite, never left a crumb. They’re a nice smaller sized kibble, so it can easily fit into dog brain teaser food toys. It is on the stronger smelling side, so expect that to be quite noticeable. Not nearly enough to knock it down a star, but it’s worth mentioning. It’s a good one worthwhile of your own pet like I believe for mine.

    Vet recommended. Great value.

Our vet recommended this for our blue Heeler puppies and their mama. It arrived quickly and was fresh. They love the flavor and was easy to eat for our puppies. I started grinding it and adding puppy milk formula at 4 weeks to make mash, then at 6 weeks started just adding water to make it softer. At 7 weeks the really just wanted it as it comes. They seem to love the flavor. Their mama also loves it. By ordering this from Amazon we saved $10-20 if we’d bought it locally.

    animals ripped into the bag

This must be good smelling dog food . . . both the dogs and the cats ripped into the bag before I was able to walk out and back into the room. This is a strong smelling food, with typical puppy sized pellets. They aren’t dusty or dirty — there isn’t a lot of mess when dishing it out. There is no hesitation at all when I give them out to eat . . . so it must not only smell good but taste good.As a professional dog trainer and behavioralist, I am often asked what dog food I recommend. Years ago I would not have recommended Purina . . . it was known for low quality and fillers. They seem to really have worked to improve the quality of ingredients to improve their reputation and at this point I feel I can recommend their product.

    They loved it!

Was fostering some pups and we wanted to use something with high protein meant for growing pups, The pups absolutely loved it. There was very little mess issues as it seems like their stomachs did fine on it. The vet even said they were growing very well and doing much better than they were before they were rescued (they were dumped sadly and eating trash before someone picked them up). Personally, I try to feed my own pups as well as any that I foster good food and not one with lots of filler and crap that could harm their health. This fit that bill as well as what those pups needed to the T.

high protein chicken and rice puppy food

High protein puppy food. I’d never heard of the 30/20 ratio before Purina so I had to read into it a bit. Its balanced for fuel metabolic needs and to maintain lean muscle. So while Puppy is growing and putting on weight, they are putting on the right kind of weight. I love that chicken is the first ingredient and that there are no artificial flavors or colors. I did only get a small trial bag of 4lbs, so I was able to slowly add it to my dogs current food. He had no problem eating it and had no reactions or stomach issues. No gas either.

Must taste good, dog likes it!

Our old lady Katrina (almost 12 1/2 yrs.) is starting to get picky about her dinner. Turns up her nose, especially at any dry Kibble presented to her. I usually mix some dry with the wet food. Thought I’d give this new 4 lb. bag of Purina Pro Plan Puppy food – dry triangular-shaped kibble bits a chance, hoping the flavor would attract her taste buds. Well, this Chicken and Rice Formula seems to be working, she’s actually eating it!!! This food made especially for puppies has that extra nutrition and protein added for strength and endurance, for their bones and good healthy growth, so why not for the old gal? She’s not very athletic anymore, but still has some zip in her step! We’re pleased that she’s liking this new food, and the crunchiness is good for her teeth.

I ended up with a temporary rescue recently that I was having a hard time getting weight on. This stuff helped, and it did it pretty fast. She enjoyed it, and it took her the rest of the way to looking healthy and ready to find her forever home, where she is doing really well!

    As a puppy parent

As a puppy parent, finding the right food for your furry friend can be a daunting task. After trying several different brands and formulations, I finally settled on Purina’s high protein puppy food for active pups. This puppy food is specially designed for pups with high energy levels who need extra nutrition to support their growth and development. The chicken and rice formula is packed with protein and other essential nutrients that puppies need to thrive. One thing I appreciate about this puppy food is that it’s made with high-quality ingredients that are easy to digest. As a result, my pup has had no trouble with upset stomachs or digestive issues since we switched to this food.Another benefit of this puppy food is that it supports healthy muscle development. The high protein content helps to build strong, lean muscles, which is important for active puppies who need to be able to run, jump, and play.In addition to its nutritional benefits, I also appreciate that this puppy food comes in a convenient, resealable bag. The bag makes it easy to store the food and keep it fresh, which is especially helpful for busy pet parents who don’t always have time to make frequent trips to the store. One thing to keep in mind when feeding your pup this food is that it is designed for active puppies who need extra nutrition to support their growth and development. If your puppy is not particularly active or has a lower energy level, this food may not be the best choice for them.Overall, I highly recommend Purina’s high protein puppy food for active pups who need extra nutrition to support their growth and development. The chicken and rice formula is packed with protein and other essential nutrients, making it a great choice for puppies who are always on the go.

4lb bag and 24lb bag are two different products

Bought a 24lb bag from Amazon after starting my puppy on this brand. We had no problem with the dog eating it. I bought a 4lb bag to bring with me on a trip. The dog REFUSED to eat it. I bought another 4lb bag thinking it was a bad bag. Again the dog REFUSED to eat it. On closer inspection I could see the 4lb bag and 24lb bag were 2 different products. 4lb bag’s kibble are small heart shaped kibble that are slightly sticky. 24lb bag are larger triangular shaped kibble that are dry. Not sure why there are 2 different products in different size bags?

Hard Pass – Corn, soy, rice – Expensive

To start I offered this to my dog and she would not touch it except to play with it a little, then walked away. Upon examining the ingredients I’m going to take a hard pass on this food. Dogs do not need rice, and corn is a known common issue for a lot of dogs.On top of that it’s billed as “chicken” but also contains fish, and beef. I really do not serve my dog more than one protein per meal as it’s a good way to develop allergies and food sensitivies eating the same stuff in each and every meal so if your dog develops a problem with this you will be losing fish/beef and chicken to uncover the issue. It’s really best to give your dog variety but at different meals. The same as you would not eat fish beef and chicken the same exact way for every meal. Dogs need the same variety too.Anyway on top of this food being inferior it’s also really expensive at $15 for a small 4 pound bag. Save your money and look at one of the freeze dried raw meals available or make your own. Thanks for reading my review

    My Dog LOVES This Variety

My Toy Australian Shepherd LOVES this food. She’s twelve-weeks of age and is thriving on it. The package arrived in good shape and quickly. Thank you so much for such a wonderful product.

    Great puppy food

It asked about flavor, well honestly I didn’t taste it, but my puppy loves it as does my 6 year old dog. He keeps trying to eat this, so I’d say it’s great!

    Picky puppy loves it

My 9 month old puppy has refused to eat kibble for the past 2-3 months so I decided to try out the Purina Pro Plan Development 30/20 kibble for her after reading great reviews online. He loved this kibble and now he eats up all his food in one go!

    Great quality!

Great puppy food for high energy breeds. My working Border Collies do great on this both as a puppy food and the adult formula when ready.
