Great food for a dog with tummy issues

My dog is a super picky eater and has stomach problems. So happy to have found this food that he can enjoy that won’t upset his stomach.

    Rotten

Long time giving my dogs this brand of food and I’m normally very satisfied. This is the first time that I opened the can and the smell was rancid. Normally smells and looks fresh. The expiration on the can is December 2025. But this was a new case of 12 and I opened 3 cans. Every can was spoiled. No return for this type of product, but Amazon is refunding. Satisfied with the outcome and will continue to buy this. Hopefully this is a one time incident.

    Have my dog bloody diarrhea

We had to abruptly switch my dog to this food because she had dental surgery and needed a soft food diet. She has eaten the regular Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach Salmon & Rice kibble for about two years and done great, but this gave her very bloody diarrhea with mucus in it. Thankfully things are better now that we have stopped this food.

    Dissatisfied

All 24 cans are dried up around the edge of the cans. I’m lucky if I get a half of a can of wet food. My dogs are senior 5lbs pups with very few teeth and they can not eat the stiff, dried portions. Only gave it two stars because they like this food.

Our dogs love this, our vets (numerous) feed it to their own dogs… Highly recommended.

There’s a lot of internet comments on Purina in general. Why? Well, some of it is generated by entitled people who feed their dogs the most expensive food they can find. Some of the bad publicity has been generated by other companies. We have fed our five dogs for Purina. Our oldest is 15 years old, and for the most part, she still behaves like a puppy and looks pretty good for a senior. Two of our dogs have severe allergies. They both do fine on the sensitive stomach (salmon and rice) option, which is what they’ve all eaten. One of our dogs had such bad allergies as a puppy that she nearly died and looked like one of those emaciated dogs from a commerical. She spent nearly two months in ICU until the vets could figure out what food she could tolerate using normal protocols for changing food. The only thing she could tolerate was the Purina.I always ask the vets which foods they feed their own dogs, and invariably, the answer is Purina. That in itself says a lot.We recommend Purina. More importantly, our dogs recommend it. They like the taste, but more importantly, they thrive on it.

My Lab loves this dog food.

My dogs skin has healed up pretty fast. She was nervous while we were moving and gnawed herself raw. This food aided in her to heal up and to me that’s priceless.

One of the few with no chicken!

My dog still scratches incessantly, but finally we found wet food with zero poultry. It gives her nasty gas, but most things do.The other Purina Beyond wet food with salmon, cod and whitefish has chicken broth in it so if your dog is allergic to poultry like mine, don’t use that one.Note: as a vet tech, let me tell you, many dogs are sensitive to poultry. If they scratch, itch, bite themselves, have red paws, red skin, etc and you’re sure they’re not flea infested, remove poultry from their diet completely. Check labels- everything has chicken! Especially treats!Turkey is also the same, so NO POULTRY products. Try salmon, or lamb.

    Food had gone bad!!

My dog usually eats this food, so I am familiar with the texture etc.. I received this, and the food was separated and rancid. I opened a few cans and they were all the same. DO NOT ORDER. It was a waste of time and money, and appears to be nonrefundable.

Making dogs sick – Salmon formula

I have trusted Purina for years – never again. My vet recommended I switch my dog to Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach Salmon formula – he had horrible diarrhea for TWO WEEKS and that’s including implementing a probiotic and stomach antibiotic (standard treatments for the symptoms) from my vet. He was miserable and didn’t want to drink water either. Now I see ALOT of owners reporting this same issue and severe illness from this specific food. As soon as I switched him back he started to normalize. FDA is supposedly investigating, but please do not risk your pets health. I will be switching all of my pets off of Purina to be safe.

I love the food for my stomach sensitive chihuahua, but the price fluctuations and availability suck.So 5 star for food but it drops to 3 because you either can’t find it anywhere…or price goes from $36 to 80 something. 😡 Not good when you baby’s tummy is extremely sensitive.

I can buy a can of chili in the grocery cheaper! But my dogs don’t like Chili unless it has New Mexico green chilis in it, and that drives up the cost!;)

    Sticky horrible mess

This dog food is so sticky I have to wash with Dawn dish soap to get it off of my fingers after wiping the spoon clean. Maybe it is the rice. I gave it 2 stars only because my dog did not have any problems with it. I am going to change his food anyway.

    Finicky pup likes it

Bought for small yorkie with no teeth. Older rescue dog with sensitive stomach and picky. Been feeding it to him for a year, seems to do well with it. He still had bouts every few months of throwing it up but added some meds and good now. With other foods we tried it was much worse. He would often not eat before we switched to this.

Really helped my German Shepherds itchy skin issues.

My dog really likes this food. I also purchase the dry Salmon & Rice and mix in a half of canned food for my dogs dinner. His itching has all but stopped and I attribute it all to this food. I’m a little concerned now because I’m having a hard time finding just the Salmon & Rice canned food, all I see at my retailer, Tractor Supply, is a sealed carton of 12 cans, 6 of the Salmon & Rice and 6 Lamb & Oatmeal. I’m very leary of using that different food, but I’ll try it. If my dog doesn’t like it, I may need to switch to something else.

Good food but not cushioned in the packaging.

My dog is a senior dog and can’t eat what he used to. My vet recommended this food, and it’s hard to find in local stores. We ordered it off Amazon and have been happy with the subscription, except for one thing: The case of food is in a cardboard flat, wrapped in plastic. Three of the cans in our first case were un-usable because there was no cushioning and they broke open in transit.

    Smelled gross, dog loved it

This canned salmon food smells disgusting, but I think that made it even more appealing to my dog. She loved having part of a can as a topper on her dry food and she gobbled it down. I think she had some diarrhea after the first time she ate it, just because of the change of food and I might have given her too much too fast. After that I started giving her less and it balanced out.The price is pretty high for this, but if you have a dog with special dietary needs, it’ll probably be worth it.

Excellent Quality Food – our dog loves it!

We’ve been feeding our dog the dry version of this food since she was a pup as it was recommended by our breeder, along with Pro Plan canned food as a topper. Our dog is a Shiba Inu and the 6th of this breed in our family. Most all have had skin issues – hot spots, itching and fur loss which is common on this breed, with some relief from expensive shots at the vet. Knock on wood at 20 months, and a Pro Plan diet, our little girl has had none of these issues and is completely healthy and beautiful.Somewhere along the line, she became finicky about the wet food and we switched the canned Pro Plan to a refrigerated “fresh” variety available at supermarkets in a sausage roll packaging. We continued with the dry sensitive formula (Salmon and rice) Pro Plan to this dayAfter age 1, she got the “fresh” in the morning and this same dry formula again for her dinner time feeding. Then she got finicky again and wanted to eat mostly at night so at dinner time we fed the “fresh” food first followed by the dry and now at 20 months this is her new routine.I don’t believe the Pro Plan salmon and rice sensitive stomach formula was available in the canned version – or at least not at our local retailers at the time we were on a 100% Pro Plan diet or we would have tried it instead of the “fresh”.This morning I opened the first can of this case and put a spoonful on top of her dry Pro Plan. She was curious and has since eaten this canned product and all but a few pieces of the dry kibble. The food appears to be high quality as we’ve always gotten from Pro Plan. It smells pretty good and scoops easily. It makes a great topper and we will continue using it as that on top of the dry adult Pro Plan Salmon and Rice Sensitive Skin and Stomach formula.I prefer the convenience (and cost) of canned food vs. refrigerated and am very happy Purina can provide the high quality specialty diet with foods that our finicky dog enjoys. Also like the pop top cans!Highly Recommended!

Great for dogs with allergies! or dogs that have a week stomach

So we have 2 large dogs, 1 med and 1 small dog.Our small dog has allergies to chicken and corn especially, she usually has to get a pill from the doctor so She will stop inching like crazy. it requires a vet visit and $ for the medicine. Not Cheep. We have tried a lot of different brands and meets, but the salmon really dose the trick. Now our small dog is picky so if I warm it up a little she will eat it just fine, the 3 big dogs really like it they would eat a whole can if I just feed them that way lol.Because we have so many dogs we always feed them salmon dry dog food, with cooked rice and beef broth, and every other day they get a can of dog food mixed in, or a can of pink salmon from the store.(witch has bones I have to pick out)”pic with black/brown/white dog”Our med sized dog had really bad dry skin especially in the summer when the AC is drying everything out, but a little fish oil changed that totally! Also she use to shed way more and her fur is way softer.”pic with brown/tan dog”that’s our dumb guard dog, he will eat anything lol, but this did improve his coat, and skin. One thing I do notice is that with fish the fat content is very low so all of our dogs look healthy not over weight, and I rarely see any runny or watery poops in the yard, actually I haven’t seen any in a while now. Also we have a foster dog right now she is a female Doberman, she has bad skin issues and very little hair on her back, and she may have a thyroid issue. So I have to be sure she is getting very little fats andshe looks a hell of a lot better I tell you what, and the food has just enough smell to crush her pills up and mix them around. Also it took her a day or two to get use to a new kind of food, but she did and still dose eat every bite of it.10/10 ✨ Good price, really works for dogs with stomach issues, like half as smelly as a caned pink salmon so the wife is not gagging anymore, dogs love it but picky dogs may need time to adjust.

    My dog loves this food

My dog, while not a picky eater, usually grazes on his dog food throughout the day. However, when I served him up a can of this food, he gobbled it right down. It isn’t the most attractive stuff, but my dog seems to really enjoy it. I mixed it with dry food, and he ate all the dry food also. The ingredient list is very clean, and the food didn’t cause him any digestive issues. Really high-quality stuff that my dog enjoys. Four barks from Charlie!

Healthy Canine Feast, But Nose Beware!

On the flip side, the scent could be off-putting to some pooches (and their humans). It has a unique fishy odor, owing to the salmon base, which might linger if left untouched. It’s a bit of a hit or miss, given that it was a mealtime superstar for some dogs, but left others cold.Quality wise, it checks all the boxes. Packed with moisture and boasting a decent ingredient list, it seems like a solid meal choice for most dogs. Be prepared to wrangle with its somewhat weird texture, though. Also, while the Purina brand carries weight, this product falls on the pricey side.Given the overwhelmingly positive response from the dogs themselves and considering the health benefits, including a boost of omega-3 fatty acids for our furry friends, I’d say it’s a worthy indulgence. Use it as an occasional treat, or mix it in with the dry kibble to jazz up routine mealtimes.

My cats like this food. Empty plates are always a good sign. I wish the price was more affordable. It seems like the food that is the healthiest for your pets is always expensive. Especially, if that food is for special needs. Much like the price of human food.

good food, dogs don’t like it but cats do

This food appears to be good quality. The food is in pate form and has good amount of moisture. The food is salmon flavored and you can smell the salmon in there but it’s not unpleasant. The ingredient list looks great with the top ingredients being food you can read. However, my dogs don’t seem to show any interest for it. Wet food is always a hit or miss with them, sometimes, we don’t want to eat it and other times, we’d chow it down, so I’m going to leave it alone for a while and give it to them again in a few weeks to see if they change their mind.Meanwhile, the cats love this food, they’d wait for the dogs to be away so they could eat it. I’m going to give the rest of the can to the cats if the dogs are still finnicky.
