I got this when my cavapoo was a puppy when he developed a habit of always climbing into my lap when I was driving. Being an overprotective dog-mom, I researched my options and decided to invest in a sleepy pod as it had the best safety features. Of course many have teased me for the silly ‘space pod’ he rides in. He is now 3 years old and we just got into an accident where the car was totaled. Being in the pod, my dog was completely unharmed. I’m so grateful he was in his ‘space pod’.

Expensive for what is now just an ordinary dog bed

I was excited to have a product that would keep my 12lb morkie safe in the car. I spent a couple of weeks acclimating him to the bed without the top on before attempting to use it with the top. I wished there was a way to have the top on but held open at as intermediate step but I digress… he was doing okay in it until one day he decided enough – he tore through the mesh and was out in less than 5 minutes. Damaged beyond repair.

    Great construction, a little small

I wish there was one that was slightly larger! My Yorkie is 12lbs, but he’s a bit of a weird shape and loves to lay his head on things or just flop over to sleep. He took to hopping inside as soon as I opened it!There’s one main problem for me: the Sleepypod is made for tiny animals or for ones that like to curl up, it seems like. A slightly larger model would be amazing! Plus, the sides are a bit high, so the poor pup has to really carefully step in or do a full-on hop. Dogs with longer legs, as well as cats, probably won’t have a hard time at all. I know it’s a safety issue, but it would be nice if there was a zipper in the front to allow for an entryway for shorter animals.Other than that, though, this thing’s great. The nylon it uses feels like the same kind you see on expensive Samsonite luggage, and the interior is super soft like a microfiber blanket. The bed itself is rigid with a little give, so if you buckle it in too tightly it’ll just *sliiightly* squish, but it feels sturdy. It sits snugly in the car and feels secure. The top goes on easy, though it doesn’t open as wide as I expected (which could also just be because it’s new). The mesh seems breathable and helps shade your pet from the sun, but they can still see out it no problem. The liner being removable for easy washing is great, too, and I think they sell attachments for summer and such so your pets don’t overheat. The zippers, nylon, Velcro, and plush interior all feel like good quality materials. It’s definitely expensive, but it *feels* like it, too. It’s worth the price for the safety and construction!

    She pops right in!!

My dog loves this little pod! We got it when she was 12 weeks old. I read how safe this pod is but I never dreamed that my dog would love it as much as she does . It’s soft and comfy looking. My husband can hook her up with the seatbelt and I feel so much better then her being in a crate or climbing around the car. Our now 9 pound dog chooses to sleep in it every night. I did notice yesterday that during a period of separation anxiety LOL) she has torn or chewed off part of the mesh.

    This seems very secure

My nervous 6 pound dog is very comfortable in this bed. Even my cats don’t seem to mind it. And most important, the carrier seems very secure in my car. I will note that this can be purchased at a lower price from a Subaru dealer. It is bright blue and Subaru branded, but otherwise the same. The prices vary online but I got mine for about $170 including shipping.

Our cats loves their safe space

This one was our second Sleepypod. We still have the first one we purchased, and both kittens used to be able to fit in one pod. Now they require their own sleepypods. The Sleepypods transport the cats easily. We always get complements on the uniqueness of the Pod when we take the cats anywhere. They are well built and the zipper is heavy duty. Our male cat is a good tall twelve pounder and it fits him well. We leave them out in the living room so they can retreat to their safe space in case of thunderstorm. We leave it open for them and they are not afraid of the pods. I would purchase these again. They are more expensive but super well built.

Think of it just as a child’s car seat

I love love love this. I’ve only just gotten it in today but so far I’m very impressed. I will do my best to remember to come back if anything changes or heaven forbid we get in an accident.I drive with my little girl Penelope (5lbs 12 year old VERY PICKY) pretty much every day for the last year or so and have had her in the car with me more often than not since I’ve been 19 (6 years back). While I would have loved to have always had a car seat for her I could never find one that justified the price. No crash ratings or reviews of people in accidents. I would check google every so often and this time I got a hit and I’m elated.I got the regular size even though Penelope is in the weight class for the mini because I saw some reviews that mentioned it was a tight fit for their dog. I didn’t want to have to return the thing so I went for the size up. I think the sizing is perfect on the regular! It fits her and my car (A Prius and shes in the front seat) very well. However, I do think some animals would benefit from the mini. It’s important to have safety for critters of sizes! I put some pictures of her and the seat up for anyone who is on the fence about the sizing for their baby. Nelly is 9 inches from shoulders to the tail base and fits snuggly in there with her favorite blanket. There is even a pocket for a warming pad!!!Another thing I love is that it really is a mobile bed. She goes to work with me every night on 3rd shift and tonight is the most comfortable I’ve seen her. The top part gives her some shade from the lights and makes her feel protected. It is very easy for me to strap in and unbuckle as well.Overall if you are hesitant about the price just do it if you can. Personally, I put this on a credit card. It’s a chunk of change but it is similar to the expense of a child car seat in my opinion. Also, it’s cheaper than a vet bill, or therapy.

Roomy and sturdy for most small pets

I bought two of these last minute for a rather long trip. I wanted something that was larger and safer than my cats’ usual carriers when they had never been on a long trip before and wound up panic buying these four days before leaving. Thankfully the seller offered faster shipping so I was able to get them within a couple of days. The cats were hesitant to climb in it before we left in spite of all the pheromone and calming sprays sprayed on it, so their first real introduction was the trip itself. They tolerated the carriers surprisingly well though one cat had an accident inside halfway through the trip. Cleaning it was very easy. After we got to our destination the cats ignored the carriers for days until I had to take them to the local vet. The vet staff were quite impressed with the carriers and like another commenter said, the cats were mostly able to get examined inside the carrier. After that, I had the bright idea of spraying catnip spray on the carriers and it was like magic. The cats were crawling in and sleeping in them no problem. The trip home was much easier with no issues and the cats still sleep in them.

Does not really fit my 12 pound dog

The specifications say for 15 pound and under dog. My tot is 12 pounds. While I won’t return it and will use it for short trips I will not use it for multi hour drives as it really isn’t big enough.

    Expensive but worth it

Gorgeous color and wonderful safety features. I have used sleepy pod carriers for my cats for YEARS. Nobody else has the safety features that this carrier does. I kind of wish it came in a square or rectangular shape as carrying it is a bit awkward, but for the safety features, it can’t be beat. I love being able to use my car’s safety belt to strap the carrier in place. Don’t place your old fashioned carrier in a seat without strapping it in — the carrier will flip over with ANY sudden stop (trust me).

Superb product to safeguard your dog.

A marvelously convenient item with which to safely and comfortably transport a small dog. The quality is excellent and the service and communication from the seller were first-rate. Shipping was also very prompt. I seldom comment on things I purchase online, but this transaction was so positive I had to. I’d buy from this company again in a heartbeat.

    Love the Sleepy Pod!

My daughter lives 1 1/2 hours away from us and her drive home has a stretch of highway with a crazy amount of accidents. Her cat is very precious to her, so I was concerned that if she was in an accident with her in the car in her normal hardcase carrier that she would be severely injured, killed, or even just run away never to be found. I began searching for a safer carrier to transport her and found the Sleepy Pod. In my research, I discovered that Sleepy Pod has been rigorously crash tested at the same standard as child safety restraints and that the company even designs and builds its own crash test pets. One of the issues in initial independent testing was with the velcro strap on top coming loose in an accident and allowing the Pod to flip upside down. When the company was notified that there was an issue, they had a company rep onsite within a couple hours, and ultimately added a D-ring to the strap to prevent it from coming loose, solving the problem. The top zips off if needed, it can be a bit snug, but there is a removable pad inside if you want a little more room. My only real concern was if she might tear the mesh on the top with her nails, but I don’t think it’s been a problem so far. Sleepy Pod is THE only true safe transport carrier that I found. It is a little expensive, coming in at over $200, but for me it was well worth it to know that I have done all that I can to ensure little Miss Willow’s safety in the event of any accidents. I highly recommend the Sleepy Pod.

    Good Travel Carrier

The carrier is a good size and I like being able to strap it in a car with a seatbelt. The animals seem to like it too. My only complaint is with the price, it is very nice, but is way more that other carriers. The heated pad and summer insert are extra, but should be included for the cost.

A must for pets who travel a lot

I feel this is the safest carrier to travel with your pet.The opening is the reason for deducted star. They should have spent a little more time to make the opening collapse. I take this to restaurants, and I have to completely remove the top.

    Cats love it!

I’ve been using these cat carriers for 15 years. There are none better. Zip off the top and let your cat get used to it as a bed. And they look so fab! Every time I use it, people ask where I got it. And they last forever. Only reason I bought another was because I acquired more cats!

When it came in the mail, it was the perfect size for our 2.5lb dog and we were pleased. But when we went to zip the top on, it does not line up and will not zip on — the teeth will not go together and it won’t close. We are extremely disappointed as we needed this for a long trip. I understand that we may have to pay the shipping to return this item, which is horrible service since it came with a defect. If it worked, I would recommend it, but unfortunately that is not the case at all. I’m trying to decide if I should try to order it again, but it’s a lot of money if I have to pay to return two of them. 🙁

I already owned one of these I bought probably more than 15 years ago from a retail shop (before they were well known). I still have it and it works! Super well made. My kitties are safe in them.

    High hopes – disappointed

My 12-week young Yorkie puppy likes the interior, which is soft. However, he does not like the dome part when it’s zipped into place. I think he feels claustrophobic inside. He cries and yelps when inside so we have to leave the dome part off, which defeats the purpose of safety when in the car.

Very disappointed! Don’t buy for puppy!

We bought this before we got our puppy. In very little time on a trip across town this 4 pound pooch managed to destroy the internal zipper that holds the lining in place. And on another occasion, with us standing right with her, in one 2sec chomp she bit through the lid zipper! They do not replace pods destroyed by animals. Very expensive mistake on our part! New puppy owners beware! It takes a split second for this carrier to be destroyed. If you have an older dog who doesn’t chew it’s probably a great buy. But they shouldn’t sell them for puppies. We now have a $200+ dog bed.

    Terrible odor

This pet carrier has an overwhelming chemical odor. I have left in the laundry room for off-gassing but the whole room smells of this. Cats have highly sensitive olfactory senses.I would not put my pet in this. This will have to be returned.

    Game-changer for my cat!

My kitty was diagnosed with cancer and needs a week of daily treatments. Our old soft-sided carrier stressed him out and we wanted something better since he’s needing to be transported often. This carrier was such a massive upgrade! Price point is a little rough, but this thing should last for years and he’s so much more comfortable. It’s sturdy and doesn’t collapse on him. He can sit up and look all around him if he wants. But the best part is he can lie down and feel hidden if the environment is loud or stressful. He’s not going to *like* any carrier, but this one is pretty easy to get him in and he doesn’t seem nearly as scared as he was in the old one. So IMO, money well spent for our boy.The only thing that could be better is it would help to have a double zipper on the dome part. You have to turn the entire carrier while you’re zipping and it does have a habit of getting a bit stuck.

    My puppy loves this thing

This was the first item I purchased when preparing for a new Havanese puppy. I took it with me to pick him up from the airport, and have used it for every car ride since. He’s a particularly velcro-y dog, and generally hates separation, but it only took a couple of car rides for him to get comfortable and stop whining in the carrier. I do buckle him in the middle of the back seat, so he can see me, but he’s content to sleep comfortably throughout car rides and I’m happy knowing he’s safe. He does not have a ton of interest in it as a bed at home since the walls are pretty high for such a short dog, but it’s the perfect height for him to sit in and peek over the edge through the dome in public, so he loves it.It’s also been great as a transport at our destination–my vet is still operating curbside, and so they take him in his carrier. After the appointment, both times, they’ve let me know how great the carrier was as they could place him in it between examinations and he would relax and wait patiently. It gives him a little bit of safety and comfort in strange environments, for which I’m grateful.I did switch out the shoulder strap it came with for another one with a bigger, stretchier pad. I don’t think it’s mandatory, but the provided strap just wasn’t comfortable for longer distances. Thankfully, since the case has attachment points, you can pretty much clip on your favorite shoulder strap and go.All in all, I’m very pleased with the purchase and hopeful I’ll be able to keep using it the rest of his life. Construction seems fairly solid; the zipper for removing and replacing the top can seem a little fiddly, and I’ve no doubt a dedicated chewer or scratcher could get through the netting up top, but it’s withstood puppy teeth and claws so far and none of it seems at risk of breaking in the near future.

    My rabbit loves this thing

I got this for my rabbit so I could bring her with me when I visit my parents who live 7 hours away. I didn’t get the mini size as it looked too small even though my rabbit is under 5 pounds. Before I even took her in the car she was using it as a bed and loving it. She flopped in it many times. If left to her own devices she will chew it, but the only damage I have seen is a tiny rip in the mesh on the lid. She is not a happy camper in the car no matter what, but I believe this allowed her to be as comfortable as she could be, and she was healthy arriving at the destination and after arriving back home. I was at ease knowing she was secured in the seat with a seatbelt. The only problems I have are 1. The lid doesn’t really stay open, but I was somehow able to pry it open while holding her to get her inside it and at least then she couldn’t immediately jump out, and 2. She peed in it halfway through the return trip, which I didn’t realize until we got back, and the smell had partially gone through all the way to the bottom layer of the carrier despite the waterproof layer (possibly because it sat so long). I have yet to figure out how to get all the smell out of the washable plush part so I can use it as a bed again. Going to try using borax, already tried vinegar. In the meantime she seems to miss the bed!

This is not only a great cat carrier (the reason I bought it), this is the absolutely favorite cat bed ever for my two cats (and we have 4 or 5 other cat beds around the house). I didn’t intend to use it as a bed forever, but they love it so much that it is always out and available for them. I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars for ease of use because it can be tough to get the zipper started on it.

    Perfect for Yorkies

Our Yorkie pup LOVES his sleepypod and sometimes goes into it just to take a nap. It is very versatile. You can remove the top and use it like a pet bed, if you like. You can use it in the car to keep your furry family member safe on a car trip and it easily and securely attaches to the seatbelt. The zippers are easy to use and well designed to avoid material becoming caught and jammed in them. It’s easy to clean, too. You can open it up, unzip the liner and throw it into the wash. The remainder of the unit can easily be wiped down with a disposable wipe. I’m so glad we purchased ours. Our Yorkie, Wally, gets excited to take a car trip and doesn’t hesitate to jump into his sleepypod for another adventure. When we’re away from home, if he’s tired or stressed or scared, he has his sleepypod as his safe space where he can take refuge. I’m so happy we bought this for him. He loves it.

    Love this!

I love this product! I bought it for my miniature dachshund because he loves to ride with me to pick my daughter up from school but I want him to be as safe as possible. He loves it! We get in and I unzip it and tell him to get in his seat and he crawls right in and snuggles up. I do have a toy in there that he likes and it stays there so that may help with him liking it so much. He seems very comfy and sometimes doesn’t even want to get out when we get home. I was very unsure if this would be worth it because it is kind of pricey and I did look at many options and many were cheaper. He doesn’t use his as a bed, it stays in the car at all times, but as his “car seat” I think it is great.

    A splurge but worth it!

I picked up my 8 week old puppy with the pod . We travelled 3 hours back home and he was comfortable and safe. He has slept in it ever since. The sleepy pod is sturdy, well made and super stylish. Everyone from the breeder to the vet had to compliment it.Update 5/17/2023:Luffy is a year old now and while he doesn’t sleep in it, it is my puppy car seat! He lays in it or stands.. either way is securely strapped to the car and he is clipped on to the pod.So I got my moneys worth!!

This carrier is the “Cadillac” of cat carriers . The quality is excellent and there are several added features that I didn’t expect. You can remove the top portion and it provides a cozy bed for the cat.i have a 13 pound cat and he fits just fine . There are a lot of zippers but just follow the directions .My only complaint is not getting a response from customer service when i sent a question to them butI highly recommend this carrier and t’s totally worth the price for our precious babies !

Love the shape and that it’s crash tested

It’s very sturdy and even when the cats move around inside, it doesn’t tip over. It’s also a good size, they seem comfortable. My rabbit companion loves it too, she seemed happy on the ride to and from the vet, was eating snacks, sleeping and grooming herself.
