Vetoquinol Zylkene Calming Support Supplement for Medium Dogs 33-65lbs 225mg

Help your mildly to moderately anxious dog relax naturally with Zyklene. For everything from noise phobias, travel, vet visits, and more!

$24.49$160.99

Description

Dogs and cats with mild to moderate anxiety often need support to help them relax.  Zyklene is an all-natural supplement that provides that support. It is one of few clinically proven natural anxiolytics.  Therefore, I can confidently recommend it to pets.  Not all dogs and cats respond to medications the same way.  You start to supplement with Zyklene several days before a stressful event, such as moving, vet care, Independence Day and New Year’s fire works, bad storms, etc.  If your pet’s anxiety is random or daily, Zyklene is safe for daily use.  It is not a sedative, your pet will not get drowsy while taking Zyklene.

Works Wonders! Definitely Worth a Try!

I have a border collie lab mix who was never socialized as a puppy before I rescued her. She is terrified of everything and super anxious. After about a year of training with not a lot of improvement I started to seek out some anti-anxiety medication to help her out. We went to the vet and got a prescription for Clomicalm but they also recommended trying this out! Since using the Zylkene my dog has been so much better! We never ended up filling our prescription for the Clomicalm. It’s not a miracle drug or a quick fix. It doesn’t stop her from barking at strangers or other dogs, but it has curbed a lot of her anxious behaviors like whining, chewing up things, and more! Overall she seems so much happier when she is on this and she is a lot more successful at her training! I recently stopped using it thinking that it wasn’t making any major improvements but I was wrong. Once I stopped using it the anxiety came back! I can’t recommend this product enough! I wish I had known about this sooner! For dosage we give 4 of the 225 capsules or 2 of the 450 (depending which was cheaper at the time to buy). That’s above the recommended dosage on the bottle as our lab mix is only about 45 pounds, but our vet said this amount was ok and it seems to be the amount she needs.

The best sleep medicine for an older dog!

I have tried a few different things on my 15-year-old hound-pitt mix who was barely sleeping through the night. We have tried many ways and medicines like: Benadry, Calm Forte, exercising him lots as his arthritis and medical state permitted, walking long walks before bed time as well as during the day or preventing him from napping as much during the day and NOTHING was working -he could go to bed around 12am and easily wake up at 3:30- 4 AM like a happy little puppy as if forgetting his age and arthritis and bounce all over the house barking obviously getting all of us awake. Another dog owner recommended this (unpronounceable 🙂 Z- Med; I read reviews and had nothing to lose but to try it. I did start out with 225 mg dose because CHILI’s age and he’s a very skinny 43 lbs to make sure he was going to handle it well and then we switched to the 450 mg dose. The capsule is very easy to open and sprinkle in the food and it must be very tasteless and unnoticeable because the dog does not mind it at all (versus other crushed/powdered meds he takes). It took about a week and now it’s working like magic !!!! We finally got our nights back 💖

    Different cat!

I inherited my neighbor’s cat when she died. This cat was a feral stray that she lured into her house as a kitten and tried to tame. When I got him, he would hide so well that it took 4 days to locate him in her 4 room house. He was so terrified of everything that he would curl into fetal position and would not look at or focus on anything. Miraculously, he is not aggressive. He spent 2 months in my bathroom, with me trying to make up with him. After that, with the aid of a veterinary behaviorist, he was put on a prescription medication in combination with Zylkene. Within 48 hours of the new meds, he was a different cat! He took interest in things, he cuddles with frantic love, he plays with toy mice. I ran out of Zylkene a couple times. Within 3 days, he is fearful again. For this cat, it takes the combination of both medications to manage his chronic anxiety. He gets 75 mg twice a day. I purchase the 225mg capsules, and I divide the contents into 3 doses. It is not an exact science, but it works and I can’t afford to buy 2 bottles a month of the 75mg.

It does not knock him out like some pharmaceutical medicines might

We have a young reactive male dog. I bought this product at the recommendation of two canine veterinary behaviorists. It’s all natural, made from a hormone found in milk. I have found it usually takes about half an hour or so to see a change in my dog. It does not knock him out like some pharmaceutical medicines might. He is wide awake, but in a calmer state after taking the this product. Even at the highest dose he can have he may nap, but is not totally out of it. I find giving this to him before training exercises helps him to be calmer and able to learn what I’m trying to teach. He is a very high drive dog so this makes sense. However, if given to my older dog it does make her highly drowsy. I assume this is because of their vast age differences and excitement levels about the world. Every dog will react differently of course. All and all I really like this product and will continue to use it for my dogs

Helped one of my two dogs

I tried this with both of my 60 lb rescue dogs this past week to get through the fireworks on New Year’s Eve. I began giving them the appropriate dose once a day about three days leading up to NYE. One of my two dogs did significantly better on this than with other calming aids I’ve tried in the past. She even went outside and took care of business a few times, which she never would do before. My other dog, who is more anxious to start with, was still just a mess when the fireworks started. From what I’ve read online, this supplement can be used in conjunction with other calming aides, so I plan to talk with our vet about trying a combo of some sort to see if it helps before ruling it out completely for him. I liked that this did not make them drowsy.

Stopped my cat from pulling out his fur

My cat had developed an odd tendency to rip out large portions of his fur for no apparent reason at random times, eventually giving him bald and patchy stops. Vet recommended 75mg of zylkene. I ended up switching to this and giving half a capsule a day to cut costs.I haven’t noticed any significant change in my cats’ disposition aside from the fur pulling stopping, which is great. If dosing is stopped for more than a day or two, fur pulling starts again. I’m not running random trials here but that’s suggestive of it being effective. The active ingredient is an alpha-caseinate milk protein. I contemplated just getting casein protein and giving to my cat, but the active ingredient appears to be much more concentrated here. The capsules are very easy to open and pour out into wet food. From what I can tell there’s no averse flavor change as my cat will happily eat this poured into just an ounce of wet food.Product is a little bit more expensive than I’d like, but by buying these larger 225mg capsules and giving a portion it’s not as bad.

Noticeable “Edge” Off of a Neurotic Border Collie

This is not a sedative, so it’s not going to make your dog sleep nor have a huge startling effect on behavior. I’ve been using for almost a month and I notice a slightly mellower dog. I purchased looking for something that would help during summer thunderstorms, as the dog in question has an extreme case of storm phobia. If the storm stays in the far distance, she doesn’t seem to react as much. If it’s right on top of us, she’s still pretty freaked out, so this certainly isn’t a silver bullet. Still, she seems a little less worried/anxious in general.Four stars because the cost is so high for what, to me, is only a slight improvement. I’m not sure I’ll use it after the summer due to cost, and I know many of my friends want to try it but simply can’t afford it as a maintenance drug for their pet. Here’s hoping the manufacturers drop the price to make it more accessible (I suspect they’d sell a lot more).

    I see some improvement…

I have a cat that is aggressive toward my other cat and these seems to have helped. I wouldn’t say that this has completely fixed the issue but I would say the fighting is down by 50% and he has been on this about 2 months. I sprinkle the powder in some chicken broth or some wet food and he eats it without any issues. Most of the other calming treats I have tried he won’t eat so that’s a plus.

I’ve used this for a while for my cat with …

I’ve used this for a while for my cat with separation anxiety. It works very well for him with no ill side-effects, aside from possibly slight weight gain, which I attribute to him being more relaxed and not the supplement itself. My cat would urinate inappropriately on things to mark his territory when I was away (such as at work) and this helped him calm down. He was getting to the point of having severe acne around his nose and mouth from stress and that has cleared up and the hair is slowly growing back. It is by no means a miracle in a bottle, my cat is still himself and doesn’t care for other cats as he ages (house of five), but he is less stressed. He is not as quick to urinate inappropriately, though I still keep him separated when I am not at home. He is less vocal (no howling for me), and less tense. (And yes, he has seen a vet and had all sorts of tests only for them to say he’s a cat that thinks he’s a dog–he is a Siamese mix, after all.)

Great price for this product. Really helped my cat chill out.

I have a cat who has anxiety and she started to pee on our bed when we weren’t home. I started giving her the 75mg caps, but found it is more cost effective to buy the 225mg and then open the capsule and split into 2 doses. Now I can get 2 months supply out of one bottle for the same price as one bottle of the 75mg. I also like that it is natural, non-addictive and I can’t overdose my cat on this. This has really helped my cat. She has been taking these for over a month and is doing much better. Less aggressive and hasn’t peed outside of the box. (thank goodness) She isn’t a zombie when taking these. She is just herself, but less aggressive and more calm.I have used sprays, flower essences, spirit essences and calming collars. Nothing seemed to help. I’m glad I found Zylkene and at a great prices on Amazon. Thank you!

Really helps new puppy to adjust

We adopted a 9 week old Great Pyranese/Antalonian Shepherd mix puppy. Our vet recommended this supplement to help with brain development so he won’t become aggressive due to his breed. Of course we also work heavily with proper socialization and training. Since giving him this supplement he has all but stopped the whining when I would put him outside for potty breaks and play time. He has also stopped growling at other dogs. He seems more calm and loveable. He was already a sweetheart but the fact that he was already growling at other dogs at such a young age concerned our vet. I feel with continued behavior training and this supplement our fluffy ball of joy will grow to be a well mannered dog. He is also able to sleep throughout the night with his doggy sister in their kennel without whining.

    Changed our quality of life!!

We tried everything with our anxious cat before this became available in the States. It’s amazing. We have a cat that became incredibly fearful after an emergency surgery. Prozac and other meds mellowed her to the point that she didn’t want to be social or snugly. She was like a zombie! This supplement eases her anxiety considerably, without the medicinal hangover. Highly recommend! With the vet’s approval, we now give our cat two doses a day (sprinkled in a treat or ham – it’s tasteless) and have completely weaned her off any medication with far better results!I don’t normally say this, but if you love your kitty but she’s making you nuts, just give this a shot! It literally changed our quality of life. Be sure you give it to your cat in some form that ensures she’ll eat a full dose at once (especially if you have other cats sharing her good bowl).

Took the edge off of my dog’s anxiety

On my Vets recommendation I started using this about 8 weeks ago with one of my dogs (an 11 year old JRT mix). She was exhibiting signs of moderate anxiety after a sudden move and total disruption in our household and it’s routine. She had also suffered a severe bout of “Old Dog Vestibular Disease” in November and still wasn’t quite the same. We noticed a marked improvement in her behavior within the first week or so of using the Zylkene. I open the capsule and sprinkle the powder on her food at night. We give it “4 Paws”!

Worked for only one of my dogs

I bought those for two of my dogs. I had read that it may not work with every dog when taken. Well on my smaller anxious dog it worked surprisingly well! She’s the type that barks at everything even at night. The first day taken she actually slept well which i was so happy about! She deserved a good nights rest. Now on my other dog, well didn’t work at all. Overall the product does what it says and may or may not work. It’s a chance an owner has to take.

    Effective, but expensive.

We got these to help one of our cats with anxiety issues. They were recommended by our vet, but they are pretty expensive. Coming in at nearly $50 a month, it did not seem worth it to keep up with the regime. I feel bad about it, but in these times that is a lot of money to spend.

    Works for my aggressive cat

I started giving this to my cat after my vet recommended it due to my cats aggression toward my other cat. I had been giving it to him for about 9 months and it did appear that he was not so aggressive. Then I ran out of the Zylkene at the end of December 2020 and did not reorder it because of the price. After about a week or so, he started becoming a bit more aggressive toward my other cat. And now after 2 weeks of not giving him Zylkene, it is clear that Zylkene worked. He is now attacking her again. He literally bites and pulls out her fur. I just ordered more Zylkene.

Relieved anxiety of end-stage congestive heart failure in my cat

My 15 year old cat was exhibiting anxiety and stress from heart failure (lethargy, breathing and sleeping problems). I used this product out of desperation (the boxed, tamper proof 225 mg size), and was amazed by how well it worked! My small cat only needed 1/3 to 1/2 of each capsule per day mixed in food. Within 48 hours of use he was acting “normal” again, showing positive behaviors I had not seen in several months. He was able to relax and sleep again, in addition to resuming normal daily behavioral routines. This was used while he was on heart medication (blood pressure and diuretic), and I did not observe any “side effects”.

    Didn’t work for me

We tried a very long list of things to get Moe to stop marking (peeing on the walls) … environmental, behavioral, medical, social and chemical … but none if it worked for us.So, while none of it stopped that 1 behavior, I’d like to mention that he was more relaxed/ mellow/ friendly/ calm during the 32 days I had him on it. Most of that time was at the 75 strength, the remainder was haphazardly eyeballing half of the capsule’s 225 strength.Moe did not seem to find the flavor objectionable; I’d mix it into 1 Tbsp of wet food (to make sure he ate all the medicine) which he always chowed down before I offered the rest of the food.

Worked great for a week or two

Worked great for a week or two, then cat returned to previous behavior. I kept it going for another two weeks or so, but she still was in retreat. Her trauma had been severe, so now, a year later, I’m noticing that things like Rescue Remedy are working brilliantly whereas it didn’t work at all when the situation was at it peak. At that time, she needed calming meds from the vet for a few months. When we stopped them, my Olive was much better but still not herself. So a few months later I tried the Rescue Remedy again along with a Feliway diffuser, and my baby was finally back. I’m sure if I used the Zylkene now, I might have better results.

Can’t tell if it worked on our dogs or not. We moved cross country over 2 days. First day, gave all 3 dogs the pills and one seemed to settle down in the car within about 20 minutes. The other one it took a little longer. The third is usually ok in the car. The second day I forgot to give the dogs the medicine and they all seemed ok. So I am not sure if it worked or they just got used to riding in the car.

Vetoquinol helped calm my anxious Puggle

We are preparing for a 1000 mile move with 3 pugs, a puggle and a kitten in the car. I felt I should be prepared for some anxiety so spoke to our family vet. She gave me a brochure to look at and highly recommended Vetoquinol. I adopted my puggle from the pound ,where he was dropped off when his family moved. When I started packing he became anxious ,remembering what happened last time I’m sure. He started peeing in the house , I started giving him the Vetoquinol and lots of loves; he hasn’t peed inside since. I have ordered another bottle ,I want to have some around for just in case.

Two weeks in and don’t notice a difference.

Honestly, I am on the second bottle of this and don’t notice a difference in my Border Collie. She gets aggressive when someone comes to the door, and when I feed the cat (separated due to this aggression). Nothing seems to help, even behavior modification. I’ll continue to use for one or two more bottles and see if it helps. I also use Calm which has the main three ingredients recommended by vets, so here’s hoping it works well. This is pretty expensive for a pill that doesn’t seem to work for my dog….might work well for other dogs with other issues.

    This stuff really works

My 5 yr. old lab mix has developed some high anxiety issues over the last two years. This was suggested by my vet. I only wish I had started it sooner. She hears thunder, she looks around and puts her head back down. A situation develops on our walk and I tell her “no” and she disregards it and keeps walking. She is so much happier now that she’s on the Zylkene. I’m not sure I’ll ever take her off of it.

    Absolutely amazing

My schnauzer is absolutely terrified of fireworks. We have tried every shirt, prescription, and very expensive dog headphones that did nothing. I saw a post about this “ supplement” on social media and decided to try it on July 4th. All I can say is this is absolutely the BEST product on the market to help dogs. It did not make him sleepy. It did not make him foggy. He was literally just relaxed. I don’t know how it works and I have nothing to do with this company. I bought this and tried it. Five stars for helping my beloved dog!!!

Zylkene really works to calm my dogs.

I started using Zylkene eight days before the fireworks started. The recommended dose for each dog ( 19 pounds and 14.5 pounds) was 150 mg. So I bought the 225 mg capsules and cut the capsules in half so each dog received approximately 112 mg every morning. On July 3rd and 4th, when our usually quiet neighborhood sounds like a war zone for hours, I gave an additional dose in the evening. In previous years, we went to the basement and played Music Through a Dog’s Ear very loudly to drown out the outside noise. However, the dogs still became frantic and could not be comforted until the noise stopped about 1 or 2 AM. Obviously, this was stressful for us as well. Zylkene changed my dogs’ response to a known severe stressors. We still had to go down to the basement, but our dogs did not become frantic. There was some panting and restlessness, but they could be held and comforted through the worst of the noise. We were able to watch TV just like it was a normal evening. One dog even fell asleep on my lap. We also noticed the dogs tolerated intermittent (legal) firework noise while outside without immediately running to door to get in the house. We gave (and they readily took) treats as positive reinforcement for tolerating the noise. Then last night we had a severe thunderstorm in the middle of the night. Without getting up to get the Thundershirts or starting the calming music, both dogs reacted to the noise but, again, did not become frantic. We were able to hold and comfort them until the storm passed and everyone could fall asleep again. We will continue Zylkene for the rest of summer until the thunderstorm season has passed.

Works well but is WAY overpriced. Buy human Lactium instead!

Zylkene has helped my very anxious rescue German Shepherd, but it is just SO EXPENSIVE that I can no longer afford it. Fortunately, I read an article from a rescue group that recommended the human version, called Lactium. I bought a 60-capsule bottle of Swanson’s Anti-Stress Lactium for $20 on Amazon (as opposed to $76 for 30 large dog Zylkene capsules) and it works just as well! I’m tired of being ripped off, so I’m really glad I learned about Lactium!

Vet recommended for my nervous dog

Vet recommended for my nervous dog. She’s been taking Prozac, but I wanted to get her off of it. It wasn’t completely effective, and she was losing weight because she didn’t eat as much. So I tried this, with mixed results. No more effective than Prozac, but no side effects to note. I give pills in peanut butter, and she takes willingly. I was also able to sprinkle on her food, and she still ate it.I’ve moved on to L-theanine, 100 mg, human grade. My dog became more fun-loving within a day or two, with no noticeable side effects. She eats it willingly when sprinkled on food. And it’s less expensive than the Zylkene.Ask your vet. (S)he may not be immediately familiar with either Zylkene or L-theanine. But have them check it out. I especially like that there are no restrictions or concerns noted for either product.

    I had such high hopes

It’s essentially warmed milk in powder form. Warmed milk can have a calming effect. In my dog’s case, it made no difference. In addition, it made his poop blue. I had to break the capsule and give the powder inside with yogurt or cottage cheese.

Not a total cure, but defiantly part of the stress relief plan

Some people may not find this to work, but for us, our 5 yr old puggle who has issues with fireworks and storms it helps a lot.It definitely works better then the doggie meds from the vet that just make it worse. We use this product along with the Thunder Shirt and we can really see a difference, of course its not going to make your pets issues just go away, its a very light sedative that for our dog takes the (edge off), when we think Buster needs it, like 4th of July, New years eve and approaching storms, we simply give him the recommend dose, and within about 20 min he started to feel a little better and within an hr he’s able to go to his (safe place) and sleep. When dealing with dogs with issues, you really need to give them a SAFE place, somewhere they can go if they want and deal with they’re stress. sometimes its on your lap and sometimes its in a bathroom or cage, but give them an option along with the Zylkene. Also, we play music at higher volumes for him, classical music is great. All in all, if your pet has stress issues, nothing is going to (fix) the issue easy. But there are things you can do to help and for us it the following:ZylkeneThunder ShirtSafe PlaceClassical music at levels not too loud but loud enough to blend in with fireworks or thunder.UPDATE~~We do use this but also some stronger prescription meds from our vet for when something stronger is needed, we happy to see a new FDA approved drug just released SILEO, so if your needing something stronger check into this.

    Miracle in a Pill

Okay, this is going to sound like it was written by a relative, but I’m just your normal, average animal freak with five resident dogs and seven cats (two are fosters). Over the years we’ve had probably a hundred or more animals in our home, and we tend to adopt the misfits. Mango, our overanxious, neurotic rat terrier is one of our bigger challenges. She has to modes: catatonic and, as my friend put it, “tiny psycho dog.” Over the years, we’ve done any number of behavioral, homeopathic, and medical interventions with only modest success. After a series of very volatile outbursts, our vet put her on a strong antianxiety medication before. We were thinking we may need to prepare ourselves for euthanasia, something we aren’t in a rush to do, but after three years and thousands of dollars, we were running low on options. The drugs worked, but she was so zonked out there were nights we had to literally carry her upstairs. We knew we had to wean her off of the drugs but we were apprehensive about her reverting back to her old ways. The vet said one of the other vets had good luck with Zylkene, and said while it’s spendy, maybe it was worth a shot. Since she’s been completely off the drugs and exclusively on the Zylkene (about 3 months), she’s gone from several occurrences of attacking the other animals (and occasionally is) a DAY to maybe twice in the past three months, and very easy to redirect to preferred behavior. I truly believe this stuff has saved the life of the dog who stole my heart. She’s a confident and affectionate little girl who not only doesn’t fight with her siblings, but actually cuddles with them! Remarkable! I haven’t had the same luck with our other anxious dogs, but if say it’s worth a shot of you’re at wit’s end.

Maybe it works maybe it doesn’t.

I bought this for my cats. I give it to all of them nightly mixed in their food. It took some time for them to get used to the flavor. And I really can’t tell if it has helped any of their anxiety because behaviors have not changed.

    Very expensive item

My vet recommended this item for the anxiety the dogs are having with the endless thunderstorms we get in Florida. It turns out to the milk protein (basically) so I bought the protein in bulk after using this item. Way too expensive for what you get.

so my vet recommended trying this to see if it would help

My dog is definitely calmer and is doing less barking. She is almost 16 and we assume some of the random barking is just due to cognitive issues, so my vet recommended trying this to see if it would help. There was an immediate change within the first couple of doses and she did almost no barking for a little over a week. It gradually started up again, but is still much more mild than it was before. I do think the Zylkene makes a noticeable difference.

Excellent natural supplement for anxiety and behavior improvement

My roommate recommended this to me as he is an animal behaviorist and rehabilitates dogs. It is very natural as it contains milk proteins that are in mothers milk. I have tried it with my anxious dog for 2 months and her anxiety has greatly decreased, while her tolerance to storms and loud noises has increased and it is easier for her to learn better ways to handle her anxiety. I tried stopping for awhile just to test but Id prefer to keep her on it for now as it helps so much!

No change noted in our Goldendoodle. Sleeps more, but still barks at everything. No change in her anxiety

    Somewhat helpful

The dog seemed a little better during fireworks but still shook and panted heavily. He did not go and hide like he used to.

    Inconsistent amount in capsules

Zylkene has been a great help with my two pups who are nervous in different ways for different reasons. It seems to take the edge for them. I sprinkle the Zylkene on their food at meal times and noticed with this most recent order that the amount of powder in each capsule varies. Some have very little, some have the amount that I am used to. Odd, but there you have it.

We’ve tried so many products. THIS STUFF REALLY WORKS!!!!!!!!!! Finally my Dog doesn’t destroy my house anymore when there are thunderstorms which living in Florida there are many . It mellows him out and makes him sleepy. Make sure you give your dog the right dosage although he still is a little scared he is not nearly as petrified as he was. this really helps him and it’s not too expensive. A must try for anyone who deals with anxious pets during thunderstorms. Can’t wait to see how he reacts on July 4.

    So Far noticed an improvement!

Our Shih Tzu is a rescue that was badly abused, he’s afraid of loud noises and many other things. He’s only been on Zylkene for about 2 weeks, but we’ve already noticed an improvement. I can’t wait to see how it helps him after he’s been on it longer/ I do wish they could make the capsules smaller though. They’re pretty big for a little dog. We just put a little liver sausage on it and he loves it! I’ll let you know how he;s doing after a little longer on the product.

Noticed some improvement, but not enough.

Ordered these from Amazon as they are cheaper than getting them through our vet. My dog did get some relief from this product but mainly due to it causing drowsiness in her. I have had to resort to dog form of Prozac and am seeing much better results with that. Didn’t want to have to resort to that, but for my sake and my dog’s health I was running out of options. If you have not given these a try and are trying to avoid other medication this may work for you.

    Didn’t work

These didn’t work for my dog but that doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t work for yours. My dog is a 75 lb labradoodle and I reached the daily limit at one point and it still didn’t do anything to him. He has anxiety from almost everything but especially riding in the car. Sadly, I’m still in search of something that will help.
